Canada Games Centre

The Canada Games Centre is Halifax’s newest fitness, aquatic, & recreation facility, established to integrate both the need for high performance sport & athlete development, while promoting recreation and wellness within the community. It’s run by a not-for-profit society who operate the centre on behalf of the Halifax Regional Municipality. It’s an impressive facility—with striking architecture. Some of the highlights include a 140 foot indoor/outdoor waterslide and an indoor running track.

Over the last few months, we’ve been hard at work designing brochures, rack cards, pop up banners, print advertisements, newsletters, posters and marketing/communications templates for the good people at this wonderful new facility. The vibrant colours extracted from the logo, combined with photographs by Geordie Mott at Wooden Shoe Photography really help these products stand out.

Celebration Square stage

For the two weeks of the Halifax 2011 Canada Games, there was a stage setup in downtown Halifax at Parade Square—dubbed “Celebration Square” for the duration of the Games. I was tasked with design of the surrounding banners. This design featured silhouettes of dancers and fans which mixed with real shadows during the shows to enhance the fun, party atmosphere of the event.

This stage held free performances at noon and at night for ten days with big Canadian artists including: The Joel Plaskett Emergency, Sloan, Hey Rosetta!, Matt Mays, Christina Martin, Hawksley Workman, Great Big Sea, Jeremy Fisher, Old Man Luedecke, Buck 65, Rich Aucoin, Radio Radio, City and Colour, Amelia Curran and more.

I neglected to get a nice photo of the stage while it was up. Trust me, it looked great at night with spotlights! Below is the best record I’ve got of it.

Three pole gantry

I designed a few of these for the Halifax 2011 Canada Games. The particular product is called a three pole gantry. This was located in Parade Square, in front of Halifax’s City Hall. The design features a different athlete image on each of the three sides.

MilAero

Some recent work for a new client, MilAero. They are a local company specializing in the manufacture and integration of high performance electrical assemblies. MilAero had an established logo (which I quite like) and look and feel. I was engaged to design two pop-up banners and a brochure/handout for an upcoming industry trade-show. The results below.

Colchester Active Transportation Week street banner

This is a twenty foot long street banner for Move On Colchester Active Transportation Week. They wanted something they could reuse every year, without specific dates. We settled on sort of a variation or expansion of the Move On Colchester logo, which I designed in September 2009.

I’ve been doing some more work for Performance Genomics recently. So I guess they liked my brochure.

I’ve done an advertisement for an industry trade show, a powerpoint template for their presentations, and this here pop-up banner to the right.
