Guess That Price: Comparing cross-border shopping

This is another responsive website design—where the site layout adapts to whatever device (phone, tablet, etc..) you are viewing it on to provide an optimal user experience. For this site, we defined a custom, easy to use system for the organization to manage their touring artists, concerts, and presenters, in addition to the general information and news they need to communicate. The individual artists have associated video/audio clips and can be easily browsed by instrumentation or touring season.

The design of this site is simple and elegant, with a defined grid and considered focus on the artwork (images). The existing print publication has a strong modern design, and it was important to keep the website typography and layout consistent with that.

The main content being delivered is current exhibition listings, along with selected articles and reviews from the print magazine and additional “online exclusive” content. Check out the website and the Spring 2013 issue, which hits news stands this week!

This is also the first website I’ve produced which is responsive. This is a modern approach to web design in which a site will adapt to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation—across a range of devices (from desktop computers to tablets to mobile phones). The website layout will effectively adapt to whatever device it’s being viewed on. This is an ideal product for my clients because they can provide ubiquitous content and information to their customers (regardless of the device they’re using) while still maintaining a single—easy to update and maintain—website.

I’ve been really enjoying responsive design, and am currently working on a few more responsive sites—so stay tuned!

Mi’kmaw Conservation Group – Mission & Netukulimk

For the design of this report, we continued a theme of that was established for the membership appreciate day at the Centre—using the idea of sports pennants to portray a feeling of celebration and victory.

MMNN is a First Nation owned, community focused monthly newspaper based out of Millbrook, Nova Scotia with a particular expertise in Mi’kmaq culture. The objectives of the newspaper are to celebrate and lift people up with an emphasis on positive stories and success stories in the Mi’kmaq community, to archive and record history, to educate, and to provide information on current stories and events that have relevance to the Mi’kmaq and Maliseet people in Atlantic Canada. MMNN has been publishing for over 10 years, and this is their first foray into the realm of online publishing.

The site we developed is a subscriber-based news website. Non-subscribers have access to snippets from stories, obituaries, job and event listings while subscribers have additional access to full stories and online editions of the full newspaper presented within an embedded pdf viewer.

Mi'kmaq Maliseet Nations News

Pinwheel was tasked with developing the brand identity including logo, cards, brochures, office documents, signage, and the web presence for this new business. The studio is run by Holistic Nutritional Consultant Anne Pryde—who also happens to be my lovely and amazing wife!

The imagery we developed for the Clean Temple logo brings to mind ideas of growth & renewal, health & vibrancy, a supportive community and nature & balance. It was important that the overall presentation of this identity be professional, clean and somewhat medical, while maintaining a welcoming, open and down-to-earth appeal.

At it’s core, this business is all about food. Helping people to make healthier & more informed food choices, alleviating symptoms that are caused by what we eat, sharing a love of cooking & good eating, and supporting the many quality local providers here in Nova Scotia.

This is a great thing. And, I’m excited for a long life of fantastic healthy eating.

Over the last few months, we’ve been hard at work designing brochures, rack cards, pop up banners, print advertisements, newsletters, posters and marketing/communications templates for the good people at this wonderful new facility. The vibrant colours extracted from the logo, combined with photographs by Geordie Mott at Wooden Shoe Photography really help these products stand out.
