Clean Temple Wellness Studio

Located in a historic building in Downtown Halifax, Clean Temple Wellness Studio offers a nutrition based approach to achieving optimal health during all stages of life. Their services include nutrition & lifestyle consultations, weight-loss, workshops in cleansing, detoxification, digestion & candida elimination.
Pinwheel was tasked with developing the brand identity including logo, cards, brochures, office documents, signage, and the web presence for this new business. The studio is run by Holistic Nutritional Consultant Anne Pryde—who also happens to be my lovely and amazing wife!
The imagery we developed for the Clean Temple logo brings to mind ideas of growth & renewal, health & vibrancy, a supportive community and nature & balance. It was important that the overall presentation of this identity be professional, clean and somewhat medical, while maintaining a welcoming, open and down-to-earth appeal.
At it’s core, this business is all about food. Helping people to make healthier & more informed food choices, alleviating symptoms that are caused by what we eat, sharing a love of cooking & good eating, and supporting the many quality local providers here in Nova Scotia.
This is a great thing. And, I’m excited for a long life of fantastic healthy eating.

Hillwood Consulting and Real Estate

A colleague of mine from the Halifax 2011 Canada Games has started a new business as an umbrella for her consulting practice as well as some real estate holdings in Halifax and Ontario. Pinwheel was approached to take on the communication and identity design for the venture.
A full identity project is fantastic to work on, because I’m able to control and maintain consistency in the look & feel throughout all brand materials.
We delivered a full logo package, business card and letterhead designs, presentation templates, and design and development of a website. The big challenge in this project was to clearly present and communicate the two (somewhat unconnected) aspects of this business—the consulting and real estate. The content had to be clearly separated, while unified under a single brand.
The name “Hillwood” is derived from the family name “Hugenholtz” and the tree imagery in the logo was refined from a sketch/idea provided by the client.

Innovacorp – green team

Local crown corporation innovacorp has established a “green team” committee to focus on issues of environmental sustainability. They wanted a look to identify the committee—for use on posters, letterhead and email newsletters.
The typical brand image used by innovacorp is a blue butterfly – so the clear solution was to use a green butterfly in it’s place. This has the desired impact of drawing attention while retaining their existing brand equity.

Innovacorp supplied the “Green is in us” tagline - a clever reference to their existing wordmark.
Pinwheel business cards

I had not updated my business cards since we’ve moved—over a year and a half ago. But I can now say that I’ve kept a new years resolution. I’ve designed and printed new cards.
These are double sided, digital colour, printed locally by Minuteman Press.

Here is a recent logo design for Halifax Headshots. This is a new company from Halifax photographer Kate MacLeod focusing on—you guessed it—portraits. We wanted the logo to be clean, professional, timeless and with a corporate appeal. The font used is Perpetua.
