Debut Atlantic

Over the last several months we’ve been busy doing design work for Debut Atlantic. Founded in 1979, and based in Halifax—Debut Atlantic is one of this country’s most dynamic and prestigious classical music touring organizations. For their current touring season, we’ve developed a new look & feel where we designed poster templates, the tour programs (cover below) and the work has culminated in the recent launch of their brand new website!

This is another responsive website design—where the site layout adapts to whatever device (phone, tablet, etc..) you are viewing it on to provide an optimal user experience. For this site, we defined a custom, easy to use system for the organization to manage their touring artists, concerts, and presenters, in addition to the general information and news they need to communicate. The individual artists have associated video/audio clips and can be easily browsed by instrumentation or touring season.

Check out an upcoming concert in your area to see some of Canada’s top emerging and accomplished classical musicians!

Celebration Square stage

For the two weeks of the Halifax 2011 Canada Games, there was a stage setup in downtown Halifax at Parade Square—dubbed “Celebration Square” for the duration of the Games. I was tasked with design of the surrounding banners. This design featured silhouettes of dancers and fans which mixed with real shadows during the shows to enhance the fun, party atmosphere of the event.

This stage held free performances at noon and at night for ten days with big Canadian artists including: The Joel Plaskett Emergency, Sloan, Hey Rosetta!, Matt Mays, Christina Martin, Hawksley Workman, Great Big Sea, Jeremy Fisher, Old Man Luedecke, Buck 65, Rich Aucoin, Radio Radio, City and Colour, Amelia Curran and more.

I neglected to get a nice photo of the stage while it was up. Trust me, it looked great at night with spotlights! Below is the best record I’ve got of it.

John Andrews album – It’s a Heart

My good friend and ECMA award winner Jonathan Andrews recently produced an album of original country music for his father, John Andrews. This is John (Sr.)’s first album and it turns out he’s a pretty great songwriter!

It’s a Heart is a great, classic sounding album which features many of my favourite local musicians including Phil Sedore, Adam Fine, R.J. Donovan, Gina Burgess, Andrew Sneddon, Becky Siamon, Norma MacDonald & Andy Cull.

Jonathan (Jr.) asked me to help with the album layout and here is a sampling of the result. The cover artwork is by Gerry Squires and the back cover artwork is by Chris Andrews (another of John’s talented sons).
